Carbonitration

Carbonitriding process is a surface hardening process that is applied to low carbon steels that are processed more easily and cost less, at a lower temperature than nitriding temperature and cementation. During the process, nitrogen and carbon atoms are sent to the material surface at the same time. It contributes to wear resistance by increasing the surface hardness of low alloy steels

It is also widely used in the automotive industry, especially in fasteners.
